Business Meetings

Business conducted at Club Meetings:

August 16, 2016

Executive meeting,

Present were: Bud Brown, President/VP Ed, Hamid Nishat, VP PR, Stephen Wang and Marc Matthys Sergeant At Arms

Bud gave Hamid the contact information for the Kitchener-Waterloo Toastmasters’ VP PR and we discussed that, since we meet across the Accelerator Centre/Agfa parking lots from each other, any promotion that either of us does should reference both clubs’ locations/meeting dates and times.

We discussed the Area Contests taking place on October 15, 2016 and set the club’s contests for Humorous Speech on September 7, 2016 and Table Topics on September 21, 2016

September 7, 2016

Moved that fees for Members of the club who are not Agfa Cheers employees be set at $10.00 CAN/ month. (i.e. $60 per renewal)

The motion was tabled  due to the fact that there was not at least 60% of the membership present and that this was a monetary motion

October 26, 2016

At the club meeting on this date we had a business portion of the meeting.  Present were: Bud Brown, Andrew Skelton, Steven Wang, Ellen Gong, Marc Matthys and John Tran (6 of our present 10 members) in addition, we had a guest Mara Kovac.

Motion: to change the name of our club from Agfa CHEERS Toastmasters to CHEERS! Toastmasters

In discussing the motion Mara pointed out that having an exclamation point after the name could lead to grammatical confusion in the future and tend to break up any message we attempted to present.  The motion was defeated

Motion:  To change the name of our club from Agfa CHEERS Toastmasters to CHEERS Toastmasters, with the CHEERS all in capital letters.

Discussion of this motion brought up the recollection that originally the word CHEERS in the name was all in caps because it was an acronym for something that no-one present remembered.

The motion Carried.
